OUR FOUNDERS
In 1987 Dr Susai Joseph and Mrs K.P.Rajhuns felt a great responsibility towards educating the needy children living in Dharavi mainly comprising of the deprived children of migrant labourers and slum dwellers .
This vision blossomed into The New Life School situated at the main 90 feet road of Dharavi .
With this mission in mind they opened a preprimary school which today has 590 students .
Over the years the school has developed in everyway and the teachers trained to impart quality education.
The New Life School aims at bringing about an all round development of the children.
It has impacted thousands of children and their families since 1987 . We both as Mrs K.P Rajhuns Children- ) Kshama Rajhuns and Thomas Jayaraj formed a Charitable Trust called the STEP BY STEP FOUNDATION to take care of the administration of New Life School.
WHY New Life School is Special!
New Life School gives a premier education at the lowest cost possible. There are students who are being educated just for 100 rupees a month, even the total fees of an average student yearly is approximately rupees 15,000 thousand. Though the facilities are limited the teaching and the culture we produce is exemplary, better than any contemporary schools in the city of Mumbai.
We even enroll mentally challenged students and students who have speech impediments, and we hear the parents say, "These students have considerably improved in your school". Majority of the parents are not educated and they want their children to have the best education so they flock to our schools that their children can study here.
STEP BY STEP FOUNDATON

OUR TRUSTEES
Dr Thomas Jayaraj and his wife Mrs Kshama Rajhuns Jayaraj have committed themselves to take forward the legacy of Mrs K.P Rajhuns and Dr Susai Joseph who began the New Life School Dharavi.
Their vision is to reach out to the next generation with quality education and holistic development so that all the children can be transformed into all that God has planned for them.
Savio Dmello, having an MBA in Finance, has been with Adani Energy for almost three decades. He believes New Life School plays a vital role in the social upliftment of Dharavi. By changing lives through education, the school is helping build a stronger society, a better community, and a brighter future for the children who grow up here.
Sugantha Philip has served at New Life School since 1996. Joined as a junior teacher, she has risen to be the Headmistress of the New Life School. Over the past three decades, she has watched generations of students grow and build their futures.
She carries forward the vision of our Founder, Madam K. P. Rajhuns, whose mission was to bring quality education to the children of Dharavi. Her legacy continues to guide the school today.
By God’s grace, Sugantha hopes to see New Life School expand into a full institution — one day, even a college.
Kailash Chavan is an Indian entrepreneur working across hospitality and technology. He is the Founder & Managing Director of Wera Food Technology Pvt. Ltd. and Woosh Cloud Pvt. Ltd., offering restaurant ERP, POS, and online ordering solutions. He also owns King Chilli Chindian Fusion in Kalina under K C Hospitality. With over a decade of experience, Kailash blends practical F&B insight with scalable tech innovation, building trusted brands in both food tech and dining.
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?
We want to make education available to everyone at the lowest cost. Every child has a right to be educated. When we give such quality free or almost free of cost, we can go ahead and stop education being sold as a business.
Our plan is to start 100 schools in every slum in Mumbai. At present we are functioning at two locations by 2026 we are planning to have it at 3 more locations, and every year we will increase till we fulfill the needs of a fast growing city like Mumbai.
